The Barney Hall Award, named in his honor, is presented by the NMPA to recognize outstanding work in the field of radio broadcasting. Hall began covering the sport in the late 1950s and soon worked his way into a job with a fledgling radio group known as the Motor Racing Network (MRN). He has called some of the sport’s most memorable events through the years – from the infamous post-Daytona 500 fight between Bobby Allison, Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison to Richard Petty’s 200th-career victory in 1984 and Dale Earnhardt’s 1998 Daytona 500 victory. He was inducted into the NMPA Hall of Fame.
