Press Release

Statement on the Passing of Kyle Busch

The National Motorsports Press Association offers its most sincere condolences to the family, friends and many fans of Kyle Busch on the devastating, sudden passing of this great two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion. Not only was he the absolute standard on track during his era of competition – winning an astounding record 234 times in NASCAR’s three marquee divisions – he was also among the most charitable and generous competitors away from the track.

Busch, 41, was the NMPA’s 2015 Richard Petty Driver of the Year for his amazing title run coming in the months after suffering major leg and foot injuries. And he answered it with another series championship in 2019. He won 63 NASCAR Cup Series victories in his 24-year career.

Yet for all his victories and titles behind the wheel, it was his compassion and insistence on making a difference out of the car that truly showed his heart most. His and his wife Samantha’s Kyle Busch Foundation won the Pocono Raceway’s NMPA Quarterly Spirit Award in 2013 and has in the years since proved an unyielding, difference-maker for countless families and individuals.

Please keep Samantha, Busch’s young children Brexton and Lennix, along with his brother, NASCAR Hall of Famer Kurt Busch, his parents Tom and Gaye Busch in your hearts during this unbelievably difficult time.
