Greg Biffle’s tenaciousness as a competitor was obvious from the first time he wheeled a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series entry for team owner Jack Roush in 1998. His success across all three of NASCAR’s national touring series produced a total of 56 victories. He was the first driver to win championships in NASCAR’s Craftsman Truck (2000) and Xfinity (2002) series.
However, it was his humanitarian efforts in the fall of 2024 in North Carolina’s mountains that thrust the Washington state native into the spotlight. After the remnants of Hurricane Helene devastated Western North Carolina, killing 108 people and cutting off the Appalachian Mountain area from civilization, Biffle wasted little time in using his helicopter to rescue people and fly in much needed supplies. He became a central figure in a decentralized, community-driven relief effort as others followed his lead. For his efforts, the NMPA awarded the humble humanitarian two of its highest honors – the Myers Brothers Award and the Pocono Spirit Award.
Biffle and his family were a shining example of how to make the world a better place. They will be sorely missed as will Craig Wadsworth, and Dennis and Jack Dutton. To all of their families and friends who have lost so much, the NMPA offers its sincerest condolences.
